I want to clear up some misinformation regarding charging $300 per year for disabled placards.
In Dare vs. Department of Motor Vehicles two individuals with disabilities challenged the DMV'S right to charge the six dollar fee for disabled parking placards. placards provide an individual with an disability equal access. The case went to the Supreme Court. The individuals with disabilities won.
This proposal to charge for disabled placards has already been challenged in court and lost.
I'm not a lawyer, but essentially, the court found that the state of California can't charge for equal access.
